CHS Clay Target Team competes in State tournament
Well, the last target has been thrown in the inaugural season for the Chapman High School Clay Target Team and the results were very promising for a team in their first season. The State Tournament, held on Saturday, June 16, was very impressive with over 800 shooters firing at over 80,000 targets non-stop all day long. All Chapman team members participated in the Kansas High School Clay Target League State Tournament, with the exception of Payton Horn who was in Washington D.C. for an FFA commitment.
Chapman entered their first major competition with many unknowns, this being their first opportunity of this magnitude. The biggest challenges were the high south winds and combines harvesting wheat, which created a low dust cloud from across the road that competitors had to shoot through later in the day. In spite of the tough conditions the Chapman team hung in there and posted some very competitive scores.
